Slacking off again…(and a little Better Than You Think…)

With the blogging, that is.

I planned on having a great post written and ready for today, but…it’s 11:10 p.m. and I’ve still nothing written.

Instead of writing I have been…

spending quality time with my husband on a rare Friday off for me and a rare Friday in town for him…

learning, from my mother, how to use my new sewing machine…

loading a little Jeep Liberty with 18 years of love and belongings…

moving my baby sister to college…

leaving my baby sister at college…

eating free Chipotle on tax free weekend (thanks honey!!!)…

going to CrossFit (first time in a week!)…

setting a new PR on the rower (500m in 2 minutes flat!  Okay… so it was 2:00.4)…

cooking me and my hubs a deliciously clean meal (after 5 days of not-so-clean meals…)…

FaceTiming my baby grown up sister on her second night completely on her own…

giving motherly sisterly advice to the sister away at college…

thinking of ways to delay my baby, baby sister’s college arrival…

wrapping up one last ‘big’ class for school (2  small ones to go!)…

So…that’s what I’ve been up to.  So there’s been no time for a Monday Ingredient or a Friday Series post.  I’ve had too much “life” in the last week or so.  Although, no one can ever have too much life!!  I’m thankful for every last bit of it!

Tomorrow I will be back on track.  And you will for sure have a new post in my Friday Series this week…

Until next time…

Friday Series: Making a Better Me (part 3)

The last two Fridays and for the next three Fridays, I’ll be posting on this topic.  Enjoy!!

I recently read a post by The Clothes Make the Girl about bettering yourself. It inspired me to create my own! Her inspiration was originally driven from 5 Body Image Quick Fixes.  It’s really easy for me to get down on myself and to not see the great person that I’ve become.  I hide behind all of the stupid petty ridiculous imperfections I see in myself.  Hopefully this will become good therapy for me! ;)

The list is…

You can create a list of:

Five things you love about yourself. (read my list here)
Five things your body can do. (read my list here)
Five things you’re grateful for.
Five things that make you happy you’re alive. (read my list here)
Five people who you love (pets included!).

Now its time for the third “Five Things.”

Five things I’m grateful for

I like this topic.  I could write for days on this topic.  In fact, I’ve written a couple posts on the things I’m grateful for and why I have it better than I think.  If you haven’t read them, check them out here and here!  I’ve already told you why I’m grateful for my husband, my family, CrossFit, my dogs, and many others so here’s my list of even MORE things I’m thankful for!

Melisssa (“Maliki”) – This is my BFF, my side kick, my partner in crime, my stylist, my makeup artist, my personal shopper…whatever you want to call her…she’s Maliki!  My days, weeks and months wouldn’t be the same without her.  For the first week I knew her, she introduced me as, “This is Victoria.  She’s my midget.”  (Even though I’m a good 4 or 5 inches taller than her…oh…and my name isn’t Victoria)  and ever since then, we’ve been inseparable. She is most definitely someone who would bend over backwards to do something to make others happy.  She loves her kids and her niece and nephew love, love, love their auntie.  She is one person, however, I would not like to be on her bad side.  Beware! I love her dearly and she is my very best friend.

My health – I am very fortunate to be a very healthy person.  I have, essentially, no physical or mental conditions that prevent me from doing whatever I want to do.  I thank God every day for my health, my strength and my sanity.

My salvation – I mean, who wouldn’t be thankful?  I mean, I know I am not always a perfect, role model Christian.  In fact, I probably wouldn’t even say I was a very good one at all. But I am a work in progress.  We all are.  I continually try to make myself a better person every day but I know that even when I mess up, God still loves me and will forgive me if I ask.  I am eternally (literally) thankful for my salvation.

Mexican food – Rosa’s, Christina’s, the Alamo, Blue Mesa, Mi Cocina…all of it.  I don’t think I could live without it.  Quite possibly the hardest thing about Whole30s is giving up Mexican food for 30 days.  It is nearly impossible!

Texas weather – Yes, I know.  Its a strange thing to say after 30something days over 100 and 60something days without rain but I’d much rather endure this heatwave than any span of sub freezing temperatures and snow ANY day!  Bring on the heat, kick out the cold.  Bring on the 80* one day then 40* next.  Whatever, I can handle it!  I’m a Texan.  Born & Bred.  If you don’t like the weather, move to Minnesota.  Then I’ll see you in November when you decide to come back. ;)

So, what five things are you grateful for?

Better Than You Think

Here’s why I have it better than I think lately…

  • Dave Ramsey.  Leighton and I are merely a hop, skip and a jump from being debt free!! (except for the house) Thanks to Dave Ramsey, we have stayed on track (mostly) and stayed motivated.  Hopefully in a couple months we’ll be calling in to Debt Free Friday with Dave!! :)
  • CrossFit…and specifically CrossFit Denton County.  I am so fortunate #1 to be able to afford it and #2 to be a part of such a great gym.  We have an owner, Dave Nichols, with passion and drive for the gym he has built.  And he is incredibly supportive and welcoming to every person that walks through the door.
  • I was going to include this one at the end of the last point but I decided it deserves its own point. The people that make up my gym are like none other. We all come from different backgrounds.  Some are doctors, teachers, stay-at-home moms, sales people, waiters, accountants, students … yet we are all CrossFit athletes … we join together 3-5 times a week to spend an hour together.  Come hell or high box jumps…we’re there…toughing it out. Together.  The support from this “small” group of 80 people is incredible.  I could not ask for a better bunch of athletes!
  • Whole9.  Oh Whole9!  Where would I be without your simple breakdown of the Paleo diet and your Whole30 program??  Where??   Confused in a mess of pages in Robb Wolf and/or Loren Cordain’s books. The way Melissa & Dallas have broken down simple eating plans for a Paleo lifestyle is downright priceless.  It has truly changed mine and my husband’s lives.  For Dallas & Melissa and the healthy habits they are preaching, I am thankful.
  • My dogs.  My sweet babies.  I don’t think I would make it every week (and sometimes longer) without my husband without the company of my li’l Coop and Magpies.  Cooper & Maggie keep me occupied, safe, and sometimes warm while Leighton is away.  Thank you my puppies!!

So…why does your life not suck lately?? :)  Why do you have it better than you think?

You have it better than you think

I complain. I gripe. I pout. I groan. I moan.

What about you? Why? What do we have to complain about? Thanksgiving, of course, makes you realize what you are thankful for and how good you really have it.

Why do we only do this at Thanksgiving? Probably the same reason we only appreciate mom on Mother’s Day and dad on Father’s day. Or the same reason you only buy your wife flowers on Valentine’s Day or thank our veterans on Veteran’s Day.

People (me included) think that flat tires, cold weather, a broken dryer and a broken air conditioner ruin our entire day. Why? Change the damn tire, put on a coat, hang them up to dry and get a fan! You’ve got it better than you think. (I actually listed how it could be worse…but…decided not to bring down the mood. You know.)

Well…here’s my gratitude campaign. Better Than You Think.

This is why I have it better than I think:

  1. Most recently on my mind because of recent pains of a few friends…I have a truly honest, loving, helpful and faithful husband. Who actively…on a daily basis…works to make us better. Even though we already have it pretty good!
  2. I’ve found myself. I really have. I’m no longer confused about money, love and life. I was talking to my (amazing) stylist and her girlfriend a few weeks ago and they mentioned to me that they wish they “had it all together” like me. I don’t feel like I have it all together…but, you know what? I have the big stuff together. I’ve got my finances in order, my eating in order, my fitness in order. I mean…I just might be a -real- grownup now. Huh. I’m really, really happy. That is the most important thing.
  3. My family is unconditionally supportive. No matter what I do or how bad I screw up, I can always go back to my family for support. It may be tough love, but I still know it’s love.

These are my top 3 for now and will post more later (maybe it will be my Sunday tradition…) but what about you? What is your Better Than You Think? Does a headache or bad traffic ruin your entire day? Don’t let something that minute get you down! Be positive. Think positive. You have it better than you think.
